Create an event

Events let you organize a gathering, see who's coming, and coordinate what people bring or help with. You build an event privately, choose who to invite, publish it to send invitations, then manage responses as they come in.

Whether you can create events depends on your neighborhood's settings. Admins can always create them, and so can designated group leaders or members. If your neighborhood allows it, any approved resident can create one. If you don't see a way to create an event, ask an admin.

Open Events:

From the sidebar, choose Events.

Step 1: Create the draft

Choose New event and enter the basics:

  • A title and an optional description.
  • A location.
  • The date and start and end times (or mark it all-day).
  • An optional banner image.

Saving creates a draft that only you and any co-organizers can see, so you can set everything up before anyone is invited.

Step 2: Set it up from the Manage view

Open the draft's Manage view to configure:

  • Audience: who gets invited. Choose everyone in the neighborhood, or narrow it to specific streets, subdivisions, groups, group roles, or individual residents. A live reach count shows how many residents your audience covers.
  • Organizers: add co-organizers (individual residents or a group). You remain the primary organizer.
  • RSVPs: whether to collect RSVPs, an optional close date and time, an optional capacity cap, whether to hide the guest list from non-organizers, and the guest types used for headcounts (adults and children by default, and you can customize them).
  • Sign-ups: optional categories (for example "Potluck") each holding slots (for example "Desserts"). Slots can have a limit and can be reordered.

Step 3: Publish

Choose Publish to send the event live. Residely creates invitations for everyone in your audience and emails them an invitation with a calendar attachment. Only approved, active residents are reached. If someone is approved later and fits the audience, they're added to the event automatically.

Manage a published event

After publishing, from the event you can:

  • See responses and sign-ups in a read-only roster, split by who responded and who took which slots. (If you hid the guest list, non-organizers can't see this.)
  • Message attendees with an announcement: write a subject and message and choose who receives it (everyone invited, just those going, going or maybe, or those who haven't responded). Your sent messages are kept as a history.
  • Cancel the event, choosing whether to notify just those going or maybe, or everyone invited. Cancelling closes RSVPs and shows a cancellation notice.
  • Duplicate the event into a new draft. This copies the structure (basics, guest types, audience, and organizers) but not the responses, sign-ups, messages, or date, so you set a fresh date and publish again.

Residely sends reminders about a day before the event: an RSVP reminder to people who are going or maybe, and a slot reminder to anyone who signed up to bring or do something.
